As you unlock different nations, you also unlock different elements for your traveler. So far, Anemo, Geo, and Electro are the only available elements. Each element has an entirely different kit and playstyle. Geo traveler is easily the best traveler element in Genshin Impact. They’re a strong unit that provides a lot of utility and great personal damage. This is followed by the Anemo traveler as second best. They also provide decent utility and good personal damage. However, other stronger Anemo characters exist – and this makes any of these characters much harder to recommend. Of these 3 choices, Electro traveler places last. They’re the strongest single-unit battery in the game… that needs a battery. Electro traveler has very low personal damage and ironic energy issues. To further explain how these characters stack up, let’s compare their character values and how they perform in the game. Since all of the traveler’s constellations are free, all comparisons are made between C6 travelers. There’s also a glossary at the very end of this guide to help you better understand the terms used! Now first, let’s take a look at their character kits.

Character Kits

Normal Attacks

For all traveler elements, it’s not optimal to level this talent. This is only ever worth it if you play the traveler as a Physical DPS. Even then, a Physical build is never recommended – this simply wastes so much of their kit’s potential.

Elemental Skills

Anemo traveler summons a vacuum vortex in their palm. This deals AOE Anemo damage. Pressing this skill deals one quick instance of damage. Holding it gradually increases its damage and AOE. This can also absorb Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro. Doing so deals additional damage of that element. Geo traveler summons a meteorite that deals AOE Geo damage. Holding this skill lets you adjust the meteorite’s positioning. The meteorites are considered a Geo construct – they can be climbed and used to block attacks. When used properly, they can also function as crowd control. 3 meteorites can exist at the same time. Electro traveler unleashes 2 Abundance Amulets while dealing AOE Electro damage. At C1, they can summon a total of 3 Abundance Amulets. When a character absorbs these Amulets, they gain the following effects:

Energy is regenerated per Amulet Their Energy Recharge is increased

These effects last for 6s. When using Electro traveler as a battery, it’s important to level their skill talent to at least level 7. This is because at level 7 and onwards, 4 Energy can be regenerated per Amulet.

Elemental Bursts

Anemo traveler summons a tornado that pulls objects and opponents towards itself. This deals continuous AOE Anemo damage. It can also absorb Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro – doing so deals additional damage of that element. The tornado can displace light enemies toward the direction where it’s cast. When used properly, this can be a useful source of crowd control. This burst costs 60 energy and lasts for 6s. Geo traveler summons shockwaves that deal AOE Geo damage. It launches back opponents and creates a stone wall. This wall is considered a Geo construct that can be used to block attacks. This burst costs 60 energy and lasts for 15s. Electro traveler calls forth Falling Thunder. It knocks back nearby opponents and deals AOE Electro damage. While Falling Thunder is present, the active character gains the following effects:

When their normal and charged attacks hit opponents, Falling Thunder deals additional Electro damage. Triggering Falling Thunder regenerates energy for the active character. This can only occur once every 0.5s.

When using Electro traveler as a battery, it’s important to level this talent to at least level 7. At level 7 and onwards, Falling Thunder can regenerate 1 Energy per proc. This burst costs 80 energy and lasts for 20s.

Passive Talents

The last hit of Anemo traveler’s normal attack combo unleashes a wind blade. This deals 60% ATK as AOE Anemo damage. After defeating an opponent with their skill, they regenerate 2% HP for 5s. This can only occur once every 5s.

Geo traveler’s skill cooldown is reduced by 2s. The last hit of their normal attack combo deals 60% ATK as AOE Geo damage.

When another character obtains an Abundance Amulet, Electro traveler’s skill cooldown is decreased by 1.5s. The Energy Recharge effect granted by an Abundance Amulet is increased by 10% of the Traveler’s Energy Recharge.

Notable Constellations

All of the traveler’s constellations can be obtained through game progress. Basically, you’re bound to get all of them just by playing. Anemo traveler’s most notable constellations are C1, C2, and C6.

With C1, their skill pulls in opponents and objects within a 5m radius. This can be used as crowd control. C2 increases Anemo traveler’s Energy Recharge by 16%. C6 shreds 20% Anemo resistance of opponents hit by their burst. If an element is absorbed, it shreds another 20% elemental resistance for that element.

Geo traveler has really good constellations. Each one greatly benefits either themself or their party members. All of them are great, but the most notable ones are C1, C2, C4, and C6.

With C1, all party members inside their stone wall gain 10% Crit rate and increased resistance to interruption. With C2, their meteorites explode when destroyed. This deals additional AOE Geo damage. C4 refunds 5 Energy every time their burst’s shockwaves hit an opponent. A maximum of 25 energy can be regenerated per burst. C6 increases the duration of their meteorites by 10s and their stone wall by 5s. Its best effect is the C1 Crit rate buff extension.

Electro traveler’s constellations mainly improve their ability to battery and support characters. The most notable ones are C1, C2, and C4.

C1 increases the number of Abundance Amulets created by their skill to 3. With C2, Falling Thunder shreds 15% Electro resistance off opponents hit. This lasts for 8s. C4 doubles the Energy restored by characters who obtain the Abundance Amulets. This only procs when the character’s Energy is less than 35%.

For saving resources, their C3 and C5 constellations are the most helpful.

C3 increases their elemental burst talent level by 3. C5 increases their elemental skill talent level by 3.

You should aim for at least talent level 7 on their skill and burst. These constellations let you save resources by providing 3 free levels.

In The Overworld

Exploration (Single Player)

In overworld exploration, Geo traveler outperforms the other two. This is mainly because of their skill’s meteorites – it’s really useful for exploration. These Geo constructs stick to most surfaces and can be climbed by any character. It helps you reach high and far places when exploring.

Co-op (Multiplayer)

In Co-op, Anemo traveler performs slightly better than Geo traveler. Anemo traveler can buff teammates by shredding opponents’ elemental resistances. This is done through the 4-piece Viridescent Venerer set and their C6. Geo traveler can also buff opponents and deal high personal damage. However, their Geo constructs can be problematic in Co-op. When misplaced, these can push enemies away and make it harder to hit opponents. It’s also not uncommon for characters to accidentally climb these constructs mid-combat. And among all of them, Electro traveler falls behind. Their burst can’t be shared in Co-op, so they can’t battery teammates. They’ll just end up charging themself. And even then, they deal very low personal damage.

Spiral Abyss (Meta)

All elemental versions of the traveler are viable. However, they themselves aren’t meta. In most cases, the traveler serves as a substitute for the empty team slots of some meta teams. Since their kits are very different, their strength here can be better assessed by comparing their best team comps.

Anemo Traveler Teams

Anemo traveler can slot into any team that would normally have an Anemo unit. By default, their element and access to the 4-piece Viridescent Venerer set make them a strong support. With this set and their C6, they can effectively shred a total of 60% elemental resistance. Their best teams include Mono Pyro, Xiao teams, and Freeze teams. Mono Pyro teams are typically composed of 2 Pyro units and 1 Anemo unit. Although this isn’t the best team option for most Pyro characters, it’s still a pretty strong team. Anemo traveler mainly serves as a source of elemental resistance shred. They work well in this team, but so does every other Anemo unit. These teams have Xiao as the hypercarry. He spends the most time on-field and deals most of the team damage. This team is great against AOE and decent in single target. In Xiao teams, Anemo traveler plays three main roles.

They serve as Xiao’s battery. Because of their short skill cooldown and decent particle generation, they can funnel energy for Xiao’s burst. They provide 20% Anemo resistance shred. Anemo traveler is one of the few sources of this – it makes them quite a valuable teammate for Xiao. Anemo traveler enables Anemo resonance. This decreases stamina consumption by 15%, increases movement speed by 10%, and reduces cooldowns by 5%.

Freeze teams are one of the strongest meta teams in-game. This is generally composed of:

2 Cryo units 1 Hydro unit 1 Anemo unit

Traveler slots in as the Anemo unit. They provide elemental resistance shred and decent crowd control. However, this is the bare minimum role of Anemo units for this team. Almost every other Anemo unit works better here.

Geo Traveler Teams

Geo traveler is the most versatile traveler element. They’re flexible and can fit into multiple teams – usually with another Geo character like Zhongli. Their teams rely entirely on Geo resonance. This increases the team’s shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield gain the following effects:

Increases damage dealt by 15%. Dealing damage to enemies will decrease their Geo resistance by 20%. This lasts for 15s.

Geo Traveler’s best teams include Mono Geo and Double Geo. As the name states, these teams are usually composed of 4 Geo units. Mono Geo deals good damage – just not among the strongest teams in-game. Geo traveler contributes high personal damage, great particle generation, and buffs for these teams. Mono Geo teams are usually either a hypercarry or quickswap team.

A hypercarry team has one character or hypercarry that spends the most time on-field and deals most of the team damage. Examples of Geo hypercarries are Itto and Noelle. A quickswap team divides equal field time between all party members. In these teams, you can just cast all your skills and bursts off cooldown.

Almost every Geo unit can be slotted into either team. These teams use Geo resonance to further buff their teammates. It’s generally composed of 2 Geo units plus any other units. Geo traveler is a really good option for these teams. They provide high personal damage and decent crowd control. Casting their burst properly can trap opponents within its stone wall. This allows teammates to hit more enemies during combat.

Electro Traveler Teams

Electro traveler has lesser utility and deals lower personal damage. At best, they serve as a replacement battery for ones you don’t have. Electro traveler is easily the strongest single-unit battery in the game. They can charge the burst of any single active character. However, they do have energy issues of their own. Each skill cast only generates 1 energy particle – for a 13.5s cooldown, that’s really bad. They basically have trouble charging their own burst. To solve this problem, giving them around 200%-300% Energy Recharge is your safest bet. Electro traveler’s best teams include Eula and Beidou teams. Eula is easily Electro traveler’s best teammate. They play two main roles in this team.

They serve as Eula’s battery. Their entire kit is dedicated to charging Eula’s 80 energy cost burst. They proc the superconduct reaction. Superconduct reduces enemies’ Physical resistance by 40% for 12s. This directly buffs Eula’s damage.

Performing normal or charged attacks are needed to proc Falling Thunder’s energy regeneration. This is exactly what Eula does. Similar to Eula teams, Electro traveler serves as Beidou’s battery and buffer.

As a battery, traveler charges Beidou’s 80 energy cost burst. As a buffer, they can shred 15% Electro resistance off opponents hit by their burst. This further buffs Beidou’s Electro damage.

In this team, Electro traveler replaces Fischl as Beidou’s battery – and this is its biggest problem. Fischl will always provide much more utility and damage than Electro traveler.

Who Should You Build?

The best traveler to build is the one that your teams need. Here’s a TLDR of all their main utilities as a support – build whichever unit benefits your teams the most. However, Geo traveler is generally the safest character to build. They provide the most versatility, utility, and highest personal damage. Additionally, unlike Anemo and Electro traveler, they have the least competition in their element. Because of Geo resonance, Double Geo teams are a very easy and common team to draft. Any two characters can be slotted into this team, and it’ll still work. While Geo traveler isn’t the best-in-slot for most teams, they’ll still perform perfectly fine in them.
